Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The Mavericks take on the Hornets, the Devils host the Capitals, and the Phillies try to stave off elimination in New York.

Meeting up on the diamond . . .

The Yankees will try once again to wrap up the World Series on Wednesday night when the set returns to the Bronx for Game 6. New York will send Andy Pettitte to the mound in Game 6; lefthander Pettitte picked up the win in Game 3 of the series, giving up four runs on five hits over his six innings of work. The Phillies will counter with Pedro Martinez on Wednesday night; righthander Martinez lost Game 2, allowing three runs on six hits over his six innings pitched.

Tipping off on the hardwood . . .

The NBA has 10 games on tap for Wednesday, including Dallas at New Orleans. The Hornets will be trying to bounce back from a 117-111 road loss to the Knicks on Monday night, a defeat that dropped them to 1-3 through four games. Chris Paul poured in 32 points and added 13 assists for New Orleans in that loss, while Emeka Okafor picked up 24 points and 10 boards. David West scored 21 points.

Also on the NBA's schedule for Wednesday: Detroit at Toronto, Miami at Washington, Phoenix at Orlando, Indiana at New York, Boston at Minnesota, the Lakers at Houston, Atlanta at Sacramento, Memphis at Golden State, and Denver at New Jersey. The Nets lost their fourth straight game to start the season on Monday night, falling 79-68 to the Bobcats in Charlotte. Chris Douglas-Roberts had 20 points in the loss, and Brook Lopez tossed in 18 points.

Taking a trip around the rink . . .

Finally, the NHL offers up a half-dozen games on Wednesday, with the Islanders at Buffalo, San  Jose at Columbus, Carolina at Florida, Calgary at Dallas, Phoenix at Colorado, and Washington at New Jersey. The Capitals lost 5-4 in overtime to the Blue Jackets last time out, and they also lost superstar forward Alex Ovechkin to an upper-body injury - Ovechkin is considered week to week. The Devils won their second straight game last time out, beating Tampa Bay 2-1.
