Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The Penguins swim with the Sharks, the Mavs take on the Raptors, and Alabama and LSU clash in a huge SEC matchup.

Colliding on the gridiron . . .

No. 3 Alabama hosts No. 9 LSU in the top ranked matchup on the college football schedule for Saturday. The Crimson Tide (8-0 SU, 5-3 ATS) will try to keep their unbeaten record intact against their conference rival; Alabama squeaked out a 12-10 win over Tennessee last time out. The Tigers (7-1 SU, 4-3-1 ATS) will be looking to catch Alabama in the standings; they beat Tulane 42-0 last week. Oddsmakers have the Tide as 7.5-point favorites, with the total at 40.

The other battle between ranked teams on Saturday has No. 15 Ohio State at No. 11 Penn State. The Buckeyes (7-2 SU, 7-2 ATS) had no trouble with New Mexico State last time out, rolling to a 45-0 win. The Nittany Lions (8-1 SU, 4-4 ATS) got past Northwestern 34-13 in their most recent contest, scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter to secure that victory. Penn State is pegged as the 5-point favorite in this Big Ten clash, with the oddsmakers putting the total at 39 points.

Elsewhere in the Associated Press Top 10 it'll be Vanderbilt at No. 1 Florida (-35), Central Florida at No. 2 Texas (-34.5), Connecticut at No. 4 Cincinnati (-17), No. 6 TCU (-24.5) at San Diego State, No. 7 Oregon (-7) at Stanford, Northwestern at No. 8 Iowa (-16), and Wake Forest at No. 10 Georgia Tech (-16).

As well, there are two CFL games on the schedule for Saturday, with Montreal a 9.5-point road fave in Toronto, and Calgary a 2-point road 'dog in Saskatchewan.

Tipping off on the hardwood . . .

The NBA offers up seven games on Saturday, with Denver at Atlanta, Boston at New Jersey, Charlotte at Chicago, New York at Milwaukee, Sacramento at Utah, Memphis at the Clippers, and Toronto at Dallas. The Mavericks will be looking to bounce back from a 114-107 overtime loss in New Orleans in their last contest, which dropped them to 3-2 on the season. Jason Terry poured in 35 points off the bench for Dallas in that loss, and Erick Dampier had 16 points and 14 boards.

Taking a trip around the rink . . .


All but four teams are in action around the NHL on Saturday, with Pittsburgh at San Jose in the marquee matchup. The Sharks fell in a shootout 2-1 to Detroit on Thursday night, with forward Logan Couture picking up his first NHL goal in the loss. Evgeni Nabokov stopped 35 of the 36 Red Wings shots on Thursday night.

Also on the ice on Saturday: Nashville at Los Angeles, Buffalo at Boston, Carolina at Columbus, Florida at Washington, Detroit at Toronto, St. Louis at Philadelphia, New Jersey at Ottawa, Tampa Bay at Montreal, Dallas at Minnesota, Phoenix at Anaheim, the Rangers at Calgary, and Atlanta at the Islanders. Star forward Ilya Kovalchuk remains out of the lineup for the Thrashers; Kovalchuk won't be ready to return from his broken foot for a month.
